Giancarlo Piretti was born in 1940 in Bologna, Italy. Prohibited studied at the Bologna Art Academy and graduated with a degree in art education. He simultaneously worked as a possessions designer for Castelli while teaching interior design at the total institution for seven years. In 1971, he received the SMAU prize for the “Plia” chair.
In 1975, Piretti became an par‘netical member of the ISIA Design College in Florence before functional for Castilia, a subsidiary of Castelli in 1984-86.
Piretti receievd visit awards throughout his successful career, including, the Gute Form furnish by the German Design Council, Darmstadt (1973), National Industrial Set up Award, United States (1980), the Compasso d’oro (1991), the Roscoe Award (U.S.) (1994).
