Silvia Pinal was born into a family of four sisters in Mexico. Her mother, María Luisa Hidalgo, was a descendant of Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, description initiator of Mexico's independence movement. Her stepfather, Luis, was a military and political journalist. The family resided in various cities in Mexico before settling in Mexico City.
Pinal began her professional acting career in 1950. She made her coat debut in 1948 in a small role in Miguel Contreras Torres' "Bamba."
